Mari, mari Mapuche (Part 2)
Bad luck with the wheather this week. At least we have better views. After the arrid and no tree mountains and plains in the southern Argentine, we´ve reached the valdivian forrests here, the beautiful 1 million lakes and more like home temperatures.
From the beginning we only got bad news about the weather. It was going to rain all week long so that all our trekking plans were kind of ruined... With all the infrmation gathered, we have decided to take a lake trip in the Nahuel Huapi national park the next day and a few easy trekks for the coming days.
Our timing sucks in general so that first we arrived late to the travel agency that was organizing the trip (because we stopped in a library to see what kinds of books we could buy for the travel). And then we arrived late for the ferry trip, in the exact moment that the boat left the port. With all the workers there laughing at us. Very funny...
Anyway, it was a beautiful sunny day (contrary to the wheather reports) so that we have visited intstead the famous hotel Llao Llao (not sure why it was famous, but the lake views were incredible). We saw colibri birds and other big ones that I thought they were condors. Probably not, but still it´s a nice illusion. Borja was surprised to discover a great golf field and plans to come back to use it.
Then we went to a reservation area, a forrest full of lakes and other birds. It took us a long time to do the entire route so that we have decided in the end to hitchhike back to the hostal. Contrary to what we have heard, the cars do not stop and even worse, the drivers make fun of the hitchhikers. For first timers like us it was a real set back. Anyway, I was left on my own for a moment and a car stopped to offer a ride. Probably got a bit surprised to see that we were 2 people instead of one girl.
The rest of the day we spent deciding not to go to our next planned trek because we were tired and bored of so many trekks. Instead we took a hot chocolate and caramel cake (Bariloche is also famous for chocoate products so that as nice tourists we have to try all the goodies). And had our lunch-diner in a park (some horrible tasteless caneloni).
Later I got a bit sick, I guess because I was so tired. Borja was a wonderful nurse taking care of me, even though he hates to admitt it. I got up this morning fresh and healthy, ready to give it another try to the lake trip.
This time we got on the boat on time, all the personnel made jokes about us almost getting on the boat yesterday. Ha ha :( Of course, we had horrible wheather and rain and we could not enjoy the trip 100%. But still, there were incredible views (we have never seen such kind of beauty in our lives before). We will post the pictures also, but as it was a rainy day, the light is not so good.
Anyway, we saw the grave of Perito Moreno wich seems to have been a real person, an economist that in his real life put the foundations of the national parks in Argentine. It was on a small island in the middle of the lake, and the boat made 3 sounds passing by, to pay our respects.
The funny thing is that the seagulls were following the boat and people were feading them biscuits to try to get closeups of them. I tried it too. My biscuit was small so that the bird picked on my finger. Very powerful beack, what can I say. It really hurt...
We also did a small trekk that lead us to a waterfall deep in the valdivian forrest (the cold forrest). This is a special kind of jungle where trees and animals survive to very big temperature differences. In winter it can get to -20 and the plants are still green. It´s probably one of the last forrests of this type so that special care is needed.
Just to underline, even though the trip was full of old ladys so in a way demeaning for us, we´ve realized that without it we would have never seen such incredible images in our lives. Nothing to do with southern Argentine or anything we have seen before.
