6 puppies, 4 kitties and an old house

Salento is a village almost not mentioned in the guides. But for no particular reason, we chose this tiny village as our next destination. And we were so right in doing it that we stayed for much longer than planned!

It was like this: we reached Salento on a Sunday morning. After a long search we found a backpacker´s hostel (we are not very keen on those places but this one had special conditions). We were supposed to camp outside an old house that the owner of the hostal, Tim, was renovating for him and his family of 5 members. Aparently he needed someone to sleep there at night and make sure thieves won´t steal anything. We paid almost nothing for our stay there, and slept on a matress on the porch. Incredible views that no 5 star hotel of Salento had (there is no 5 star hotel in the village, but supposing there was one...), plenty of bugs and fresh air.

Tim was the happy owner of 3 collies, one of them had 6 puppies which were making the delight of all visitors. And 4 newly born kitties that were kept in a box, away from the dogs' reach.

Now going back to the village, we were truly impressed and all of a sudden our image of Colombia improved greatly. Colourful houses, nice plaza with many restaurants for the colombians that were taking advantage of the tranquility and the beauty of the village during the weekends, and incredibly green sorroundings. In short, a jewel that is almost undiscovered by the backpaker's eyes.
We visited a nearby coffee plant one day, and the rest of the time we just enjoyed the view from 'our porch'. We ended our stay there when Tim managed to put the windows to his house and there was no need for 'guards'.
Next destination? Devil's oven!!!
